About
Nestled on a tree-lined street in Cheviot Hills, this 1945 bungalow has undergone a thoughtful refresh that delicately preserves its traditional California bungalow charm. Collaborating with architect Kevin Oreck, the homeowners sought to expand and enhance the space for their growing family and beloved Collie. The interiors underwent a meticulous transformation, with a focus on seamlessly integrating the additions while maintaining distinct character in each space. The design narrative unfolds as three interconnected vignettes converging at Ground Zero – a central atrium bathed in natural light, hosting a living, growing tree. The front Living room, paying homage to Frank Lloyd Wright's V.C Morris gift shop, features a sculpted wood-burning fireplace and a dedicated reading area. The connecting Dining room boasts warm walnut tones, restored Saarinen chairs, and striking black metal accents. A custom lacquered red credenza and a hand-tufted moss green rug infuse mid-century vibes, mirroring the natural hues of the Chinese Flame tree in the backyard. The Family Room, adorned in cooler gray tones, serves as a bridge between interior and exterior, offering a clean and minimal space for larger gatherings. This renovated bungalow stands as a testament to the artful layering of history and contemporary design.

"Working with Chinmaya was an eye-opening experience in the best possible way. She and her team were able to approach the project with a fresh perspective and offer design choices that we would never have imagined. I think that is the talent of a great designer: impeccable sense about space planning and being able to make small areas seem larger."
